Parking At Blackhall

Residents of Blackhall will have already noticed that, as part of the Inverleith Neighbourhood Environmental programme, there are new parking bays at the Blackhall Dip. These parking bays are free to use and it is hoped they will prove convenient for shoppers and also that they will help the local businesses to thrive.

I recently met up with members of the children’s disability charity Whizz-Kidz. This is a national organisation which aims to give disabled children and young people with increased independence by providing them with the right mobility equipment, essential training, work placements and the chance to join the UK-wide ‘Ambassador Network’, which provides opportunities for members to have their voices heard and to [...]

Number 13 Bus Thriving

The number 13 bus service that runs from Craigleith-Blackhall to Lochend has been short-listed for the Best Bus Service prize at the Scottish Transport Awards. Councillor Tim McKay commented “There was always strong community support for this service, but in persuading my colleagues to agree to the relatively large subsidy (£180,402 this financial year) I was nervous that the numbers [...]

Western General Bus

Bus Services To The Western General

The current building work at the Western General Hospital has meant that Porterfield Road may well be opened up for buses again. This opportunity has arisen from the demolition of the Paderewski building (the former children’s home) in preparation for the new Royal Victoria building, which is due for completion in 2012. Various changes are being made to the positioning of the bus stops in Crewe Road South, in order to improve access. I have [...]

Ferry Road Gasworks

As most residents are aware, Scotia Gas Networks have been having problems with leaks from their gas main in Ferry Road near the junction with Inverleith Row. They managed to do a relatively fast repair job over the last weekend of October, which helped keep down disruption and meant that the full-time traffic lights were back on [...]
